Since natural stone is quite different from more common countertop options, it’s important to know what to do and, more importantly, what not to do.
Most of the time you can simply use a sponge and water, or a mild cleanser like dish soap. It’s important to avoid acidic and abrasive cleansers because these will damage your stone. If you want to buy a cleanser, then make sure that it specifically says that it is made for your type of stone.
With a strong, smooth surface, it seems like you could easily chop your veggies on it, but don’t! Cutting directly on your countertop can damage its finish and shorten its lifespan.
Too much heat
Heat can damage your countertop’s finish, leading to other problems. Do yourself a favor and always use trivets. You should also take care to protect it from heat-generating devices like crockpots.
Quickly clean up things like soda, fruit juice, wine, coffee, and anything with tomato. These items are acidic, and can actually stain some types of natural stone.
Natural stone countertops are definitely a worthy addition to your home. And, when you treat them right, they will provide you with many years of enjoyment!
