Never Stop Fundraiser
Our son Thomas Ligon passed away at the age of 22 on November 19, 2013, from Sudden Cardiac Disease caused by an enlarged heart. He was previously a three-sport Athlete for Ozark and a Decathlete for Arkansas State University at the time of death. This diagnosis could not be detected with a normal routine physical, which he had received yearly since the age of 5. The only way it could be detected is to be seen with an Echocardiogram (ECG) with an EKG. If caught early, the patient can be treated with medication or a more extensive measure.
An annual fundraiser is held near to the date of his death, which is referred to as his Angel Date. The total funds raised are divided into two accounts in his remembrance.
The first account is the Midwest Heart Check, LLC. They use the funds to offer "free" heart scans to those who cannot afford one. This scan is not covered under insurance unless a medical exam is showing a need. Otherwise it is considered preventative and is not covered. It is also quite costly. To date, Midwest Heart Check has saved 20 lives from this offering through our fundraising efforts.
The second account the funds are distributed to is The Community Foundation of the Ozarks Scholarship Fund called “The Thomas Ligon Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund.” This is to add to the already existing funds which yearly offer a graduating Senior Scholarship money for going on to college. Thus far we have given out four Scholarships.
In order for our Fundraiser to be a success, we need people to help by contributing a Gift Certificate, Product Gift Basket, or any gift item for the auction that guests will bid on, or by donating a monetary gift made out to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, with Thomas Ligon Memorial Fund noted at the bottom.
Our son's favorite quote was "NEVER STOP", and we carry that on by honoring him in this way. We hope you will consider joining us in this great cause. Please e-mail neverstopTL@yahoo.com or call Angela at 417-258-1289.
The deadline to add your donation is November 4th, 2017. If a gift is offered we will be glad to have someone pick it up at your request. Thank you in advance for your support.
We are limited to 100 seats at the Sertoma Event Center, so we encourage people to purchase advanced tickets to assure a seat for the event. Please contact me, Bobbie Ligon, at the salon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-7 and Friday & Saturday from 10-6 for tickets.
With your help, we can continue saving lives one scan at a time.
