NEVER STOP Fundraiser, November 18th, 2017
Thomas Ligon passed away at the age of 22 on November 19, 2013, from Sudden Cardiac Disease caused by an englarged heart. He was previously a three sport Athlete for Ozark and a Decathelete for Arkansas State Univerrsity at the time of death. This diagnosis could nont be detected with a normal routine physical, which he had received yearly since the age of 5. The only way it ccan be detected is to be seen with an Echocardiogram (ECG) wiht an EKG. If caught early, the patient can be treated with medication or a more extensive measure.
An annual fundraiser is held near to the date of his death, which is referred ot as his Angel Date. The total funds raised are divided into two accounts in his rememberance.
The first, the Midwest Heart Check, LLC and they use the funds to offer "free" heart scans to those who cannot afford one, by using the funds contributedd from the fundraaiser. This scan is not covered under insurance unless a medical exam is showing a need, otherwise it is considered preventative and not coveered, and quite costly. To date, Midwest Heart Check has saved 20 lives from this offering through our fundraising efforts, whidch we are very proud and want to continue saving lives, "one scan at a time".
The second the funds are contributed to is The Community Foundation of the Ozarks Scholarship Fund ncallled, The Thomas Ligon Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund. This is to add to the already existing funds which yearly, offers a graduating Senior Scholarhsip when going on to college. Thus far we have given out four Scholarships.
In order for our Fundraiser to be a success, we need poeple like oyou to help by contributing a Gift Certificate, A Product Gift Basket, or any gift item for the auction that guests will bid on, or by donating a monetary gift made out to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, with Thomas Ligon Memorial Fund noted at the bottom.
